4 days to go

I officially leave on Thursday, so moving is starting to seem more real than it has before. It’s always amazing to me both how hard and how easy it is. It seems like such monumental life changes should require extraordinary effort, but this is one of the easiest moves I’ve made – at least in terms of dealing with the detritus of living. I just moved in to my current apartment 6 months ago, so I haven’t had much time to accumulate stuff.
On Friday i had an absolutely wonderful going away party at Good Vibes – it’s always funny to see everyone I know from different parts of my life in one room. Cousins, sisters, best friends from high school, burningman friends, people I worked with as Planned Parenthood volunteers, political friends, old coworkers, ex-partners, parents, old bosses, and co-conspirators. We raised ALMOST enough money to cover the entire trip budget, and I was really, honestly, totally floored and incredibly touched by the people who sponsored my stomach, bought t-shirts, and otherwise donated to support the trip. Y’all rock my world. If you are one of those people who pledged but didn’t get a chance to donate, you can donate online right now!
I also talked to a lot of people who have people I should talk to or people to stay with in various cities. I’m trying to get my itinerary nailed down, so if you know people along my route who you think I should be in touch with, please email me and let me know! I’m still looking for people to stay with in New Haven and Providence, which are both towards the beginning of the trip, so if you know anyone in either of those cities, let me know!
