Relaxing in South Dakota

In case you’ve been wondering what I’ve been doing. Today I:

• ordered bike maps of Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, and Washington
• bought new gloves, a spare tire, another spare tube, new handlebar tape, handlebar cushy stuff, and a visor
• rewrapped my handlebars
• cleaned gunk off Rhonda
• sewed my bike pants where the lining was coming out (again)
• spent way long gchatting with friends
• cooked delicious thai curry
• fixed my grandfathers miniature cow skull bolo that is also Rhonda’s hood ornament
• returned the cell phone I bought in Iowa
• spent hours looking at other people’s bike blogs across the Rockies getting alternately excited and terrified

I have fancy red and white striped handlebar tape, which is lots of fun but also plastic, so I had my old cork tape underneath it for padding.  When it rains and Rhonda is outside, the cork tape gets wet. Because its under the plastic, it doesn’t dry very well.  It had a distinctly aromatic odor when I took it off this afternoon.  My new tape, in addition to being odor-free, has another layer of cushy gel on top of the normal cushiness, so I am going to be in cush city.  I’ve also worn out my first pair of gloves on the trip, which makes me hardcore, right?  It was definitely time for some new ones.

Tomorrow I’m meeting with the director of Planned Parenthood in South Dakota (technically Minnesota North Dakota South Dakota), who was very involved in the successful campaign to defeat the South Dakota abortion ban next fall. I’m also heading down to the Native American Women’s Health Education Resource Center at the Yankton Sioux Reservation. It should be really interesting.
